About this tool
Upload forms love strict limits: "photo must be under 100 KB", "signature under 50 KB". Instead of trial and error, choose the size and the tool searches for the highest quality that still fits. If quality alone cannot get there, it reduces the dimensions a little too.
JPG is the default because it compresses photos best, and WebP can go smaller still. PNG images are converted to JPG unless you choose to keep the original format. Not sure which format suits you? Read JPG vs PNG vs WebP. For the full walkthrough, see how to compress an image to 100KB. Need exact dimensions as well? Use Resize Image.
Good to know
- Very small targets (like 20 KB) on large photos can look soft. Resize the photo first for a better result.
- A file that is already under your target is left unchanged.
- Transparent PNGs get a white background when converted to JPG.
Compress Image: frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image to 100 KB?
Add the image, choose "Target size" and 100 KB, then press Compress. The tool finds the best quality that fits under 100 KB.
Can I compress to 20 KB or 50 KB for a form?
Yes. Those are built-in options. For very small sizes, resizing the photo first (for example to 600 px wide) keeps it looking cleaner.
Does it work for PNG?
PNG is converted to JPG by default because that is what makes files small. You can also keep PNG, in which case only reducing dimensions can shrink it.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Compression happens in your browser, so your photo never leaves your device.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes, up to 50. Each image is compressed to the same target and you can download them together as a .zip.
