About this tool
People convert JPG to PNG for editing workflows, for software that only accepts PNG, or to avoid re-compressing a picture every time it is saved. PNG is lossless, so once your image is a PNG it stops getting worse with each edit.
One honest note: converting a JPG to PNG cannot restore detail already lost to JPG compression, and the PNG will be larger. If you need transparency, you will still need to remove the background in an editor, because a JPG has none. Going smaller instead? Try PNG to JPG or JPG to WebP.
Good to know
- PNG files are usually several times larger than the JPG they came from.
- No transparency is created. JPGs do not have any.
- Up to 50 images at once.
JPG to PNG: frequently asked questions
Does JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. It keeps the quality the JPG already has and prevents further loss when editing. It cannot recover lost detail.
Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, so photo files grow a lot. It is normal.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG will not either.
