About this tool

A light diagonal "DRAFT" or "NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION" is the quickest way to stop an unfinished document being mistaken for the final one. Opacity is set low by default so the page stays readable underneath.

This is a visible label, not security. Anyone with a PDF editor can remove it, so do not rely on it to protect sensitive content. For numbering rather than marking, see Add Page Numbers.

Good to know

  • Text only. Image or logo watermarks are not supported.
  • Only standard Latin characters are supported, so text in Hindi, Arabic or Chinese cannot be drawn.
  • Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first.
